Six Died Due To 'Extreme Heat' In The Philippines

Apr 25, Kathmandu- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines has reported that at least 34 cases of heat-related illness have been reported from January 1 to April 18 this year, including six deaths.

DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo said that the cause of death is clearly still to be confirmed.

34 heat-related incidents were reported from the Central Visayas region of the central Philippines, the Ilocos region of the northern Philippines, and the Soccsksargen region of the southern Philippines.

Eleven regions in five regions, including Metro Manila, suspended individual classes on Wednesday after the state weather bureau warned that the heat index would reach danger levels of more than 42 degrees Celsius.

The bureau warns that hot weather can lead to pain, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.

Earlier this month, the bureau had warned of temperatures of up to 51 degrees Celsius in some areas across the Philippines. It shows that the heat will continue till the next month.

The rising summer season has forced schools to conduct online classes to protect students and children from the effects of high heat.

To avoid possible complications from extreme heat, the bureau advised people to limit outdoor activities and drink plenty of water.
