Kenyan Dam Flood Kills 42

Apr 29, Kathmandu- At least 42 people have died after a dam burst in a town north of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the local governor said on Monday. The East African country of Kenya is facing heavy rainfall and floods.

It is vaguely estimated that 42 people died when the dam burst, many people are still trapped in the mud, we are working for recovery”, said Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika.

A dam near the Rift Valley town of Mai Mahiu has burst, washing away houses and roads. Earlier, the authorities reported that 76 people have died in Kenya since March. Heavier-than-normal rainfall was compounded by the El Niño weather pattern in East Africa.

Dozens of people died when a dam also burst in Solai, Nakuru County during heavy rains and floods in May 2018.
