Jun 13, Kathmandu- Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma has said that there is no objection to running any social networks including TikTok in Nepal as per the Nepali law which is acceptable to the society.
Speaking at the meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Thursday, she said that the government has banned the ticket in Nepal due to the production and broadcasting of materials on TikTok that give importance to unlimited activities in the society.
Stating that TikTok is still legally closed, she said that the government has not allowed the use of Tiktok by Nepal Telecom and other major internet service providers. He said that it is necessary to use social media in a socially friendly way.
She said, "The government decided to shut down TikTok from Cabinet." At present, it is legally closed. Even now, it is not being opened by big service providers including our NTC. However, some may be running through VPN and small internet service providers. We are in a place where we follow the rules and regulations, we should not use them".
She urged to use social media only in a way that is friendly to society and family. The bill related to social networks has gone to the cabinet. The bill related to social media will be discussed in the upcoming meeting of the Council of Ministers. That bill will go to the committee and probably there will be extensive discussion until it reaches the committee of the Parliament".
