Smoking Ban In Public Places Of Kathmandu

Jun 14, Kathmandu- Kathmandu Metropolitan City has imposed a complete ban on smoking, drinking and drug use within the metropolitan area.

Metropolitan Chief Balen Shah announced this while presenting the policy and program for the coming financial year 2081/82.

Earlier, the federal government has instructed the local levels across the country to ban smoking and tobacco products in public places.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration wrote a letter to 753 local levels across the country and instructed them to implement the prohibition of smoking and tobacco products in public places, but many of them have not implemented it. Now Kathmandu metropolis is also going to implement it.

"Besides, the junk food will also be discouraged", he said. According to the metropolis, necessary arrangements will be made to maintain the quality and hygiene of food items entering the metropolitan area.

He also said that the registration process of health institutions within the metropolis will be made based on information technology. He also said that a targeted program will be introduced for multifaceted urban poverty alleviation.
