14 People Died When A Vehicle Carrying Tourists Fell Into A River In Uttarakhand, India

Jun 16, Kathmandu- A tragic accident happened on Saturday with tourists who came to visit Uttarakhand from Gurugram, India.

A passenger vehicle carrying tourists from the Badrinath National Highway near Rudraprayag went out of control and fell about 300 meters down on the banks of the Alaknanda river. 14 people were killed and 12 people were injured in this accident.

Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said, "The Tempo Traveler train carrying 26 passengers from Gurugram to Tungnath chopta met with an accident at 11:30 am on Saturday near the Rudraprayag headquarters".

10 people died on the spot and 14 people were rescued and admitted to District Hospital Rudraprayag as the vehicle fell into a ditch about 300 meters deep from the road.

On reaching the hospital, the doctor declared one person dead. One more person died during the treatment. He said that seven people who were seriously injured in the accident were rescued by helicopter. After reaching AIIMS Rishikesh, two more people died.

Chief Minister Pushkarsingha Dhami reached AIIMS Rishikesh on Saturday evening and inquired about the condition of the injured tourists admitted there. Chief Minister Dhami has directed to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister has also directed to provide Rs 40,000-40,000 to the seriously injured and Rs 10,000-10,000 to the minors.
