Electricity Crisis Deepens In Ukraine

Jul 07, Kathmandu- After Russia attacked a power station in Ukraine, 100,000 people were left without electricity in the Sami region of the northwest. After the attack, the electricity supply was stopped in the entire area, which is on the Russian border.

The National Grid Operator Ukrainergo has said that the work of resuming electricity production is underway. No one was reported to have been injured or died in the attack. Russia continues to attack power plants across Ukraine. People have been forced to live without water and AC in the scorching heat due to the interruption of electricity supply.

Operations are being affected due to lack of electricity in hospitals. Ukraine has lost 9 gigawatts of electricity generation capacity in the last three months alone due to Russia's attack on thermal power stations. Drones and missiles continue to attack hydroelectric power stations.

In order to reduce the impact of the Russian attack, Polyad is sending the excess electricity to Ukraine. But as domestic electricity generation and imported electricity cannot meet the demand, load shedding is happening throughout the day.
