Eight Killed In Kashmir Firing

Jul 07, Kathmandu- Two soldiers and six suspected terrorists were killed in two separate incidents of gunfire in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said on Sunday. Kashmir's Inspector General of Police Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that the officials of the disputed area have conducted "two separate security operations" in the villages of Kulgam district.

Birdi said that two members of the security forces had been killed and clashes were continuing in Moderagram and Frisal Chinnigam villages. "We have recovered the dead bodies of two terrorists from Moderagram and four others from Frisal Chinnigam," Birdi said.

This is the latest incident of attack in the disputed area. Both India and Pakistan claim Muslim-majority Kashmir as their territory and have fought three wars over its control. The rebel group has been rebelling since 1989, demanding the independence of the region or its merger with Pakistan. The conflict has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians, soldiers and rebels.
