East-West Highway Blocked As Bridge Collapses Due To Floods

Jul 08, Kathmandu- The Mahendranagar-Attariya section of the East-West Highway is blocked after the bridge collapsed due to floods.

The bridge at Suda Chowk in Kanchanpur has collapsed due to last night's flood. The highway has been blocked since Sunday night due to the collapse of the bridge. Vehicles plying from the border town of Mahendranagar along the far west to the eastern city of the country have stopped en route.

Similarly, most of the areas of Kanchanpur and Kailali are inundated due to continuous rainfall and the life is affected. Last night, some families were displaced after floods entered the slums in Bhajani, Kailali. They have been moved overnight to buildings on Hulaki Road and higher ground.

Some families have been displaced in Tikapur Municipality. Disaster Management Branch Chief Nirmala Chaudhary said that 65 houses in Parseni, Bhartapur, Bhagwanpur were inundated due to the flood in Pathraiya river.

According to the District Police Office, most of the settlements in the southern region of Kanchanpur have been flooded. Some families have been moved to safer places during the night.

Similarly, traffic in the Mahakali river has been closed due to the increase in water flow. Vehicular movement is prohibited on the Banbasa bridge.
