Jul 08, Kathmandu- In France, the left-wing coalition has won a 'surprising' victory.

In the second and final round of elections held on Sunday, the left-wing alliance Popular Front became the biggest force thereby winning 182 seats.

According to international media, out of 577 seats, the Left Alliance won 182 seats.

In the forecasts made before the elections, it was predicted that the right wing would win the majority in France this year, but the coalition has come forward reversing the projection.

After Marine Lee Pen's right-wing party National Rally won the majority in the first round of elections, centrist parties supported the left for the second and final round of elections.

The alliance led by the National Rally has won 143 seats. President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Renaissance party won 168 seats.

A coalition of Republicans and other right-wing parties won 60 seats, other left-wing parties 13 and other parties 11.

However, there is going to be a hung parliament as none of the parties have secured the necessary majority to form the government.

The leader of the Popular Front, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, has said that he will become the Prime Minister from the left-wing party. He has also said that the agenda of President Emmanuel Macron and the right-wing parties has been defeated.

Prime Minister Gabriel Atal has said that he will resign after Renaissance Party comes third.
