1,600 Families Of Kanchanpur Displaced By Flood

Jul 08, Kathmandu- 1,600 families of Kanchanpur have been displaced due to the flood in the river.

Three consecutive rains have caused flooding in the riverbed. Similarly, the District Police Office, Kanchanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umesh Joshi said that the residents of the coastal areas have been displaced due to floods in major rivers including Mahakali.

According to him, 1,600 families have been moved to safer places when the settlement was inundated due to floods. He said that many other settlements are at risk.

Similarly, a child has died due to flooding inside the house. Joshi said that seven-month-old Solu Dhanuk of Motipur, Krishnapur Municipality-1, Kanchanpur, died.

It is reported that the boy fell from the bed while sleeping at night. He said that the child died after drowning in the frozen water on the floor.

Kanchanpur's Dodhara Chandni, Bhimdatta, Belauri and Punarvas Municipal areas have been inundated. Residents of the flooded slums have been moved to schools.

Likewise, the water level in the Mahakali river has increased. According to the district administration office, the flow of water in Mahakali has reached 340,000 cusecs. Due to this, all the gates of Sharda Dam have been opened.

When all the gates of the dam were opened, the residents of the coastal area were inundated. The settlements of Ward No. 11, 12 and 13 of Bhimdatta Municipality have been flooded.

Similarly, most of the settlements of Kailari rural municipality, Bhajani municipality, Tikapur municipality and Joshipur rural municipality in the south-eastern part are at risk after the water level in Mohana river in Kailali rises. The district administration office has asked the residents of those settlements to be cautious.
