Import Of Over 65 Billion Worth Of Goods From China

Jul 27, Kathmandu- In the last fiscal year, Chinese materials worth Rs. 65 billion 226 million 200 thousand were imported to Nepal through Rasuwagadhi crossing. Ram Prasad Pathak, Chief Customs Officer of Rasuwa Customs Office, Timure, informed that the imported materials include fuel and electric vehicles, ready-made clothes, rubber, shoes, slippers, handbags, hosiery cloth, shoe-making materials, apples, garlic and walnuts.

In terms of exports, there are copper utensils, carpets, noodles, pasta, herbs, aluminium utensils, shawls, woollen shawls, book-handing cloths, prepared cloths worth 1 billion 961 million 800 thousand. He said that traders who reduce the quantity of imported goods and submit the details will be fined according to law.

Chief Customs Officer Pathak informed that a fine of 616 million was imposed on the traders who showed less quantity last year. Vehicles such as buses, cars, trucks, bicycles and vans were imported. Seven thousand three hundred and seventy-seven Chinese vehicles were imported last year. Of these, 345 are fuel-powered vehicles and 7,032 are electric vehicles, according to Nirmal Kandel, the recorder computer officer.

According to the customs statistics, the value of the vehicles imported last year was Rs. 19 billion 574 million 500 thousand. Only one thousand seven hundred vehicles were imported in the year 2079/80. According to the Customs Office, Rs 20 billion 369 million 782 thousand of customs duties, fines and VAT for the year 2080-81 have been recovered and deposited in the state treasury.
