Extreme Blood Shortage In UK Due To Cyber Attack

Jul 27, Kathmandu- There has been an extreme shortage of blood in British hospitals due to the cyber attack. According to British health workers, a cyber attack on pathology service providers in London last June disrupted the blood supply chain, the BBC reported.

Usually, hospitals check the blood group of patients. However, after the cyber attack, most of London's major hospitals have not been able to carry out these tests quickly, which has led to a shortage of universal blood group 'O' negatives in particular.

Currently, the UK is said to have a two-day supply of universal blood, which can be given to people of all blood types without medical tests.

In general, it is said that there should be at least a six-day supply of universal blood. Other blood groups should also have at least three to five days of storage, but they are also decreasing gradually, according to the health workers.

That is why the UK has instructed hospitals not to use universal blood except in emergencies. In addition, citizens have been called upon to donate more blood.

Especially after the cyber attack, people who are ready to donate blood can donate. In addition, British hospitals report that there is a shortage of blood due to the hot weather, the rush to find other blood donors, and people going away for vacations.
