Thousands Displaced By Heavy Rainfall In Sudan's Kassala

Jul 27, Kathmandu- Thousands of people have been displaced due to heavy rainfall in Kassala, the capital of Sudan's Kassala state.

A local volunteer group, the youth who went for rescue, were also trapped in the flood. Officials and residents have been appealed to provide water suction pumps and assist in harvesting rainwater from shelter centres.

The Nida ul-Wasat Initiative, a civil society organization, warned of the grave risks faced by children, women and the elderly, and called for relief assistance to be provided to the displaced.

Figures published by the United Nations International Organization for Migration in June showed that more than 7.7 million people have been internally displaced within Sudan since the conflict began, while another 2.2 million are seeking refuge in neighbouring countries.
