Aug 12, Kathmandu- Four days after the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, the first meeting of the Council of Ministers was held.
The first cabinet meeting held on Sunday at the residence of interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has taken eight different decisions.
Only 16 members of the 17-member cabinet attended Sunday's meeting.
Farooq-e-Azam has not taken oath yet, despite being appointed as a minister. He is in America. Four days after Yunus appointed the minister, Azam's return to Bangladesh has not been fixed.
According to the Bangladeshi news organization The Daily Star, the meeting on Sunday decided that the government will bear the medical expenses of those injured in the student movement.
Daily Star writes that the decision was made at the meeting on Sunday to make a list of those injured in the protest and to treat them by the government itself.
Similarly, the government has decided to assist the families of those killed in the demonstration.
More than 400 people lost their lives and thousands were injured during student protests in Bangladesh that lasted for more than a month.
The meeting also decided to cancel the contractual appointments made by the Sheikh Hasina-led government. Hasina was protested for arbitrarily appointing her workers to various government agencies on contractual basis. The decision to cancel all those appointments has been made, the Daily Star reported.
Similarly, the meeting also accepted the resignation of the governor of Bangladesh Bank and the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
A recommendation committee has also been constituted for filling up the vacancies. The committee has been asked to make recommendations as soon as possible. After the recommendation of the committee, the government will fill the vacancies.
The meeting also expressed concern about the attacks on minority castes and religious followers in some parts of the country.
It has been decided that the head of the interim government will immediately sit down with representative bodies and other relevant groups to find solutions to such heinous attacks.
Similarly, the interim government has decided to start an initiative to release 57 Bangladeshi citizens who were arrested and sentenced during the demonstration in the United Arab Emirates. Bangladeshis also demonstrated in the UAE in support of the student movement in Bangladesh.
According to Daily Star, it was decided by the head of the interim government, Yunus, to communicate if necessary to release his citizens who were arrested during the demonstration.
The meeting decided to operate the Dhaka Express Metro train, which has been closed since July 18. At the damaged stations of Kazipara and Mirpur, trains will not stop for a few days. It is said that the damaged station will operate regularly after repairs.
