Wildfires In German Forests Escalates: Residents moved to safer places

Sep 07, Kathmandu- Firefighters and aerial units escalated their operations to manage the intense fire that broke our in the mountainous region of central Germany on Saturday.

The fire started from many places in the Harz Mountains on Friday and by evening it had taken a severe form. About 150 firefighters, aircraft and helicopters have been deployed to the Brocken mountain and the surrounding area has been cordoned off, according to officials in the Herz district of Saxony-Anhalt state.

German officials said that the fire was still raging on Saturday and that planes and helicopters were again sent to help firefighters. Three more aircraft and another helicopter are also expected to join the effort.

The official said, “A request has been made for more aircraft. The firefighters are still trying to control the fire".

Hikers and tourists have been asked to leave the area and 500 people were brought to safety by bus on Friday afternoon, according to local broadcaster NDR.

In September 2022, there was a terrible fire in the forest of Harz mountain. Authorities declared a state of emergency and hundreds of firefighters worked day and night for several days to control the fire.

Germany, like many other countries, has been experiencing high summer temperatures in recent years.

The world is facing a climate crisis this year as well, due to the increase in temperature, which scientists say has been accelerated by human-induced climate change.
