Sep 15, Kathmandu- Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality-5 of Mustang has been electrified by solar energy. In coordination with Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality, Alternative Energy Promotion Center has electrified Sangta by installing solar.
Chhiringpasang Gurung, a ward member of Mukti Kshetra-5, said that since there is no possibility of getting power from the central transmission line in Sangta immediately, solar energy has been installed. “Solar energy of 10 KW capacity has been installed at a budget of Rs 4 million 400 thousand", he said, "13 houses in Sangta have been benefited. After the electricity facility, the life of the local residents has become easier".
It has become easier to charge mobile phones, listen to the radio, watch television, and use a laptop. Local residents had previously installed small capacity solar sets in their homes for lighting. Solar panels are placed on the hill near the village. A house is built near the solar panel and the battery is stored. The house complex with panels and batteries is fenced with wire. Electricity has been supplied to houses by burying poles and wires.
Sangta is 28 km away from Falyak village of Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality-5, which is on the border of Dolpa district of Karnali province. Sangata is known as the youngest village in Mustang. Sangta is called the youngest settlement because it was the last to be identified. So far, mobile and internet facilities have not been reached in Sangta. They walk for two hours to reach Jhamtang hill for information exchange.
Surendra Gurung, ward president of Varagung Muktichhetra-5, said that preparations are being made to expand mobile phone service in Sangta in coordination with Nepal Telecom. A house and a water supply project with a stream have recently been constructed in Sangata, where the road facility was reached ten years ago.
