Melamchi Water To Be Provided To Kathmandu Residents On Dashain

Sep 20, Kathmandu- Residents of Kathmandu are set to receive water from Melamchi before the commencement of Dashain. The preparations for the transfer of water from Melamchi to Kathmandu have now entered the final phase.

Water supply minister Pradeep Yadav has given instructions to provide Melamchi water before Dashain. Accordingly, the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee is currently working.

Ratna Lamichhane, Executive Director of Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, informed that the team of employees of Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee has been deployed to Kathmandu as soon as possible to transfer water to Melamchi.

He said, "We are preparing to bring water from Melamchi to Kathmandu by the second week of Ashwin. According to the same plan, work is being done to repair damaged and broken drinking water pipes in Kathmandu".

Since the start of rainy season, water supply was stopped in Kathmandu Valley since Asadha 10, due to the rains and flood damage. As the possibility of flooding is reduced, preparations are being made according to the plan to distribute water in Kathmandu.

According to the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, the demand for water in Kathmandu Valley is 43 million liters per day and 170 million liters of water has been brought from Melamchi till Asadha 10.

About 200 million liters of water is going to be brought daily from the Melamchi river in Sindhupalchok.

Preparations are underway to shift the intake to the Sarkthali area at a distance of 800 meters from the current location so that water can be brought to Kathmandu for twelve months. A new pipeline of 1,700 km has been extended in the Kathmandu valley for Melamchi drinking water.
