Top Hezbollah Commander Killed In Israeli Attack

Sep 21, Kathmandu- In the attack on Lebanon's Beirut stronghold on Friday, 14 people were killed and dozens were injured, Israel said, adding that the commander of Hezbollah's elite unit was also killed in the attack.

Ibrahim Aqeel, who is wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombing of the American embassy in Beirut, was leading an Iran-backed militant group.

Hezbollah confirmed that Aqeel was killed in an Israeli attack on Friday night and hailed him as a great leader. AFPTV footage showed rescue workers working with various equipment shortly after the attack.

This is the second assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander since the start of the war in Gaza. Fuad Shukr, the top operation chief, was killed in the attack last July.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, expressed concern about the incident and the growing tension, and called on all concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint.

The Israeli army said that the attack targeted Akil, in which ten other senior commanders were also killed.

According to a source close to Hezbollah, Aqeel was in a meeting with the commanders during the incident.

Lebanon's Ministry of Health stated that at least 14 people were killed in the attack and 66 others were injured, stating that the death toll may increase.

Describing the explosion at the embassy as a prank, the US offered a reward of seven million dollars for information about Aqeel.
