Sep 28, Kathmandu- As a result of continuous rainfall, over fifty percent of the Kathmandu valley is currently experiencing power outages. The Nepal Electricity Authority has reported that the electricity supply has been disrupted in various regions across the country.
The electricity supply was disrupted due to rainwater causing damage to the infrastructure of the transmission and distribution system. Chandan Kumar Ghosh, the authority's spokesperson, stated that half of the Kathmandu valley is experiencing power supply issues.
Spokesman Ghosh indicated that the typical electricity demand for the Kathmandu Valley is approximately 400 MW; however, on Saturday, the demand was only around 200 MW.
The power supply from the Baneshwor substation has been disrupted in the areas of Godawari, Imadol, Lubu, and Chyasal in Lalitpur. Additionally, the feeders providing electricity to Khopasi, Nalinchok, and the Bode water supply from the Bhaktapur substation are currently non-operational.
Similarly, the feeders of Khumaltar, Imadol, Satdobato, Godavari, Hattiwan, Chapagaon, Khokna, Chakrapath, Harisidhi, Radio Nepal, and Lubu, which receive electricity from the Patan substation, are currently inactive.
Additionally, the non-grid feeder originating from the Lanchaur substation has been deactivated. The feeders in Kirtipur, Bagmati, Tahachal, Sundhara, Kalimati, Chakrapath, and Chamti, which are powered by the Teku substation, have also been impacted.
Handigaon, receiving electricity from the new Chabhil substation, along with the Kalanki and Balambu ropeway feeders, which are powered by the Kalopul and Seuchatar substations, have experienced disruptions in their power supply.
The Authority's spokesperson, Ghosh, stated that a team has been dispatched to restore the power supply at the earliest opportunity. However, he noted that numerous areas are inundated and the river levels have increased, complicating the operation of the power lines.
