Nepal And Bangladesh Signed An Agreement On Electricity Trade

Oct 03, Kathmandu- The long awaited historic tripartite agreement has been signed between Nepal, Bangladesh and India regarding the export of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh.

At a ceremony held in Kathmandu on Thursday, Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Kulman Ghsing, India's NTPC Electricity Trading Corporation CEO Renu Narang and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Md. Rezaul Karim signed the agreement.

Energy Minister Deepak Khadka and Shaheed Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to Bangladesh Energy Ministry were present. According to the agreement, Bangladesh will supply 40 MW of electricity in the initial phase. The Indian side will provide necessary assistance in managing its supply system. The import will continue from June 15 to November 15 every year. Bangladesh will purchase the electricity from Nepal at 6.4 cents per unit.

Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, informed that Nepal will get an annual income equal to 9.2 million US dollars from this agreement.
