Govt Concerned About The Nepalese In Israel And Lebanon, Foreign Minister Directs To Provide Necessary Assistance

Oct 06, Kathmandu- Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has instructed the Nepali embassy in Israel and Lebanon to stay 'updated' with the circumstances concerning Nepalese citizens in those countries. Following a virtual meeting with the Nepali ambassadors in both nations today, she gathered information regarding the current developments in Israel and Lebanon.

In that meeting, Minister Dr. Rana gave instructions to keep in touch with them and their families as there is a growing concern in Nepal about the situation of Nepalese who are stuck there especially due to the situation developed in Lebanon. In that meeting, Minister Dr. Rana said, "Make every effort to reach out to all Nepalese in that region. If anyone requires assistance to return home urgently, please coordinate accordingly. Additionally, if there is a need to facilitate the rescue of Nepali citizens from that location, ensure that the necessary preparations are made."

Minister Dr. Rana issued a notice to the embassies of the concerned countries and directed them to provide necessary assistance and coordination to the Nepalis in trouble by setting up contact persons and setting up help desks as per the need. Nepal's Ambassador to Egypt, Sushil Lamsal, provided an update on the current situation in Lebanon, stating that Nepalese residing there are not facing any issues at this time.

It is estimated that approximately 1,200 Nepalese individuals currently reside in the area, with the majority engaged in domestic employment. He further noted that, according to information provided by the embassy, only three individuals have had contact, and they are reported to be safe in Beirut.

He also informed that currently no Nepalese are reporting that they have problems, but their relatives in Nepal are more worried. Similarly, the Nepalese Acting Ambassador to Israel, Kumar Shrestha, said that the situation in Israel is normal and that about 4,500 Nepalis are safe. Similarly, Tapas Adhikari, the Nepalese Ambassador to Pakistan, informed about the latest situation in Iran.

He also conveyed that, at present, no Nepalese individuals are indicating any issues and that their family members in Nepal are expressing greater concern. In addition, Kumar Shrestha, the Nepalese Acting Ambassador to Israel, stated that the situation in Israel remains stable and that approximately 4,500 Nepalese are safe.

Furthermore, Tapas Adhikari, the Nepalese Ambassador to Pakistan also provided an update regarding the current circumstances in Iran.
