Truck Driver Who Was Set Ablaze By Durga Prasai's Supporters Died During Treatment

Oct 07, Kathmandu- When Durga Prasai was arrested in the cybercrime case, the truck driver died when the driver was locked inside and set on fire demanding his release.

An Indian truck driver has died after being set on fire by his supporters protesting against his arrest. The driver, 40-year-old Pyad Roy, who lives in Islampur, India, died during treatment.

Near Birtamod Municipality-6 Giri Bandhu Tea Estate, Prasai supporters set fire to a truck bearing the number WB-73E3056 without allowing the driver to exit.

A group of 10 / 12 people set fire to the truck, which was coming from the east after delivering jute (jute) at Duhabi in Sunsari, and fled.

The fire was brought under control by a police team deployed from Anaramani Jhapa, the police office of Ila, with the help of Birtamod Municipality's fire brigade.

The front part of the truck was completely destroyed by the fire. Due to the fire, the driver of the truck, Pyad Roy, 40 years old, resident of Islampur, India, sustained burns on his right arm and back.

He died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at B&C Hospital and undergoing further treatment at North Bengal Medical College.

After the death of the driver, his relatives brought the body to the Nepal-India border and blocked the road for one and a half hours on Sunday.

After the incident, Indian police coordinated with Nepal police and brought the dead body to Nepal. The body is now kept in Mechi Regional Hospital, Bhadrapur.

The police have arrested 6 people, including Prasain activist Bhim Tumbapo, for being involved in the incident.
