Malaysia's Former Prime Minister Mahathir Hospitalized

Oct 16, Kathmandu- Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to hospital after suffering from breathing problems, his aide told AFP on Wednesday.

Mahathir, a two-time prime minister, was last admitted to hospital in July after suffering from a 'constant cough'. According to his assistant, he was admitted to the National Heart Institute on Tuesday evening.

Sufi Yusof said, "The hospital informed Mahathir that he had a lower respiratory tract infection." He said, "His treatment is expected to last for a few days." Mahathir turned 99 from July.

In recent years, he had persistent heart problems and underwent bypass surgery.

At the beginning of this year, he spent about three months in the hospital and was also admitted to the hospital in July and underwent treatment. From 1981 to 2003, Mahathir was the fourth person to hold the position of national leader (prime minister) of Malaysia.

He held the office of Prime Minister for the second time from 2018 to 2020 at the age of 92.
