Arrest Warrant Issued Against Former Prime Minister Of Bangladesh Hasina

Oct 17, Kathmandu- A court in Bangladesh has issued an arrest warrant against the exiled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday. Hasina fled to India in August last year after the student-led revolution reached its climax.

The court has also issued an arrest warrant against Hasina's Awami League party's former general secretary Obaidul Kader and 44 others. The names of those people have not been made public.

"The court has ordered the arrest of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and to produce her in court on November 18," Islam, chief public prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh, told reporters.

Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule was marked by widespread human rights violations. This included mass arrests and extrajudicial killings of his political opponents.

Islam said, "Sheikh Hasina is the main person responsible for the massacres, killings and crimes against humanity that took place between July and August.

Many of Hasina's allies have been detained since the fall of Hasina's regime. More than 700 people were killed during the protests against them. He has been found guilty of all these.

Hasina's former ministers and senior Awami League members have also been arrested. His government appointees have been removed from the courts and the central bank.

Sheikh Hasina has not been seen in public since fleeing Bangladesh in a helicopter.
