Nov 07, Kathmandu- Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Beijing and Washington should find a way to cooperate. President Xi said this in a message sent to the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
In recent years, problems have arisen in the relationship between the two countries due to the stance of the two countries on trade and Taiwan. In the first message sent to Trump after former President Trump was elected for a second term in the US presidential election, Xi said, "History has shown that China and the United States benefit from cooperation and suffer from confrontation. A stable, healthy and sustainable China-US relationship is in the common interests of both countries and is in line with the expectations of the international community."
He asked Washington and Beijing to "strengthen dialogue and communication" and "properly manage differences". He said, "In order to benefit both countries and the world in the new era, China and the United States, the world's leading economies, must find the 'right way'."
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng also sent a message to JD Vance, who was elected as the American Vice President, and expressed his congratulations and wishes for a successful tenure. During the campaign for the US presidential election, the Republican leader Trump and his Democratic opponent and the current Vice President Kamala Harris both gave slogans to take tough measures against Beijing.
Trump announced a 60 percent tariff on all Chinese goods entering the United States. Yun Sun, a senior fellow at the Stimson Center, told AFP, "The president-elect is aiming to rebalance trade between the US and China to some degree."
"Given his art of applying 'maximum pressure' before making a deal, I expect him to increase tariffs on foreign and especially Chinese goods," he said. The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday congratulated Trump on his election as president and expressed his belief that "the two sides will maintain the principle of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation for the benefit of both parties."
