Nov 14, Kathmandu- A meeting was held between President Ram Chandra Paudel and his counterpart of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
In the meeting, President Paudel praised the comprehensive development and economic transformation achieved by Azerbaijan after independence in 1991. He said that after the political change, Nepal is currently moving on the path of economic development and the government's priority is sustainable economic development.
He congratulated for the complete success of the COP-29, which is being organized under the able leadership of his counterpart Aliyev of Azerbaijan, and expressed his belief that the declaration to be passed by the conference will protect the rights of countries like Nepal that emit very low carbon but are facing the great impact of climate change. He drew attention to the good potential of investment in the fields of agriculture, tourism and water resources in Nepal.
During the meeting, the President of Azerbaijan, Aliyev, said that he will work closely on the issue of climate change in the context of being the president of the COP for one more year. President Aliyev said that his country is positive to invest in the areas that Nepal proposes.
At the same time, he urged all developed countries to fulfill their commitments to address the effects of climate change. He said that even though Nepal has very low carbon emissions, climate change has a big impact. He informed that the snow in the mountains is melting, the source of clean drinking water is decreasing for the population of the lower coastal areas and there is a huge loss of human wealth every year due to natural disasters caused by climate change.
The conference, which started on Kartik 26, will continue until Mangsir 7. President Paudel, leading the Nepali delegation to participate in the conference, reached Baku, the capital city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, via Doha, Qatar on Monday. President Paudel is scheduled to reach Kathmandu on Friday morning.
