Two-thirds Of The Left-wing Coalition In Sri Lanka's Parliament

Nov 15, Kathmandu- The left-wing coalition has won two-thirds of the seats in Sri Lanka's parliament. The left-wing coalition led by the party of President Anura Kumara Dishanayake formed a single majority in the parliament with almost 63 percent of the total votes cast. In yesterday's voting, 65 percent votes were cast.

According to the latest count, Dissanayake's National People's Power (NPP) is leading the opposition coalition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) by a large margin. The NPP has so far won 123 seats in the 225 member parliament.

One hundred and ninety-six people are directly elected in the Parliament of Sri Lanka, while 29 people are elected through the proportional process. One hundred and thirteen seats are required for majority.
