Nov 17, Kathmandu- An arrest warrant has been issued against RaBi Lamichhane, chairman of RSVP, on charges of embezzlement of Swarna Lakshmi multi-purpose cooperative organization in Kalimati, Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Lamichhane and his business partner, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi.
On Sunday, Kathmandu District Court Judge Shishirraj Dhakal gave permission to the District Police Complex Kathmandu to investigate the two. Lamichhane and Joshi are now in the custody of District Police Office Kaski.
Two persons have been arrested for embezzlement of Swarnalakshmi Cooperative's funds. Among those arrested are Kamal Lama of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6 and Sunita Neva of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31. Arrest warrants have already been issued by the court against 22 more people on charges of embezzlement of Swarna Lakshmi's money. GB Rai is the president of Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative.
645 savers have lodged a complaint with the police to investigate the misappropriation of funds. Preliminary investigation by the police has concluded that 1 billion 11 million deposits were embezzled from Swarnalakshmi. It has been found in the records of the cooperative that 27 thousand depositors have deposited 2.65 billion 95 million in that cooperative.
