Nov 19, Kathmandu- Eight soldiers were killed and seven policemen were kidnapped in an attack in northwestern Pakistan, AFP reported on Tuesday, citing police and intelligence officials.
"Eight soldiers" and "nine terrorists" were killed in the clashes in Tirah area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity. The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) claimed responsibility for the incident. In a separate attack in the province by the Taliban, “seven police officers” from a single post were kidnapped, a senior police official said.
According to the official, the attackers also confiscated the weapons of the officers. Police officer Muhammad Zia Ud-Din confirmed the incident by saying that TTP attacks have increased on the border with Afghanistan. Ten police officers were killed by the Taliban group on October 25.
Earlier, 26 people, including 14 soldiers, were killed in a bomb blast by the same group at the railway station in the provincial capital, and a week later, they killed seven soldiers in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province on Saturday.
