Nov 22, Kathmandu- At least 10 Maoist rebels were shot dead during an operation by Indian security forces on Friday in an attempt to control a long-running armed conflict in India, police said.
More than 10,000 people have reportedly died so far in the ongoing movement for the rights of India's marginalized tribal people, and the uprising took place in the remote jungles of Chhattisgarh state.
AFP reported that the bodies of ten Maoists have been recovered so far, along with several automatic weapons from the rebels, quoting the police's anti-Maoist operations chief, Vivekananda Sinha.
Meanwhile, India's Home Minister Amit Shah has warned the rebels to surrender or face a "full-scale offensive." More than 200 rebels have been killed in security operations this year, according to government figures.
