Nov 24, Kathmandu- The counting of votes for the assembly elections in the Indian states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand is underway.
Out of the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance has so far won 80 seats and is leading in 147. Earlier, it was decided that the BJP-led government would be formed in Maharashtra.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance has won 11 seats in the elections and is leading in 43 seats. The Mahayuti includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar) while the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Pawar).
Maharashtra is the second largest state in terms of Lok Sabha representation after Uttar Pradesh.
Counting of votes is also underway in 81 seats in Jharkhand. According to preliminary results, the JMM alliance is leading in 57 seats, while the BJP alliance is leading in 23 seats.
