Government In Favor Of Not Taking Loans But Entering Into Grant Agreements

Nov 26, Kathmandu- Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the government will not take loans during the Prime Minister's visit to China, but may enter into grant agreements.

Making it clear that the government will not take loans under the Chinese project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), he said that the government's policy is not in favor of taking loans from wherever it can get them. He said that it is not unnatural to have differences of opinion on the BRI and that the countries that have signed agreements on the BRI project are doing good things. He asserted that the current government is committed to strengthening democracy and citizens.

Minister Gurung said that the government is conducting its activities with a positive mindset, keeping development and construction work at the center. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to move forward by resolving the process, as some development projects have been delayed due to inter-ministerial misunderstandings.

At the same time, Minister Gurung expressed his concern that the chaotic and unlimited presentation on social media has received support and asked the media not to follow baseless news. He said that the media should be sensitive and exercise press freedom as media news often creates serious situations, even suicides. He suggested that the media and media personnel should not shirk their responsibility to publish and broadcast within dignity. He informed that since the Press Council is inadequate to regulate the media, discussions have been initiated in the parliamentary committee on the council's bill to further organize it.
