Dec 03, Kathmandu- Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav has urged the Qatari government to provide 24-hour insurance to Nepali workers working in Qatar.
The Vice President requested Qatari Ambassador to Nepal Mishaal bin Mohammad Ali Al Ansari, who came to meet him at the Vice President's Office in Lainchaur today, to rescue and provide appropriate compensation to Nepali workers who died or were injured there, and to provide necessary assistance to Nepalis in various hospitals, deportation centers, and prisons.
"There are 67 Nepalese serving prison sentences in Qatar and many Nepalis are living without papers," the Vice President said during the meeting. "I request Your Excellency to grant amnesty or reduce the prison term and to help undocumented Nepalis work regularly or return them to Nepal."
Vice President Yadav expressed happiness that Nepal and Qatar have been working closely and supporting each other in multilateral and regional forums on issues of mutual interest and concern. He also praised Qatar for its mediation in the release of Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi and other hostages, informed Dinesh Yadav, Press Coordinator of the Vice President.
During the meeting, Qatari Ambassador Ansari stressed the need to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries and expressed his support for investment promotion and protection in Nepal. Informing that there are currently 400,000 Nepali workers in Qatar, he said that he would make efforts to implement the welfare of Nepali workers.
