Dec 14, Kathmandu- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is on a Middle East tour, met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani in Baghdad on Friday. The secretary of state stressed America's commitment to Iraq's security, stability, and sovereignty.
"Iraqi Prime Minister Sudanese and I met to discuss recent developments in Syria. I reiterated our commitment to the security, stability, and sovereignty of Iraq," Blinken said on Twitter.
According to Al Jazeera, Blinken and Al-Sudani discussed the need for a transition from dictatorship to democracy in Syria that is inclusive and protects all minorities.
The newly appointed Prime Minister of Syria, Mohammad Al-Basir, has taken the issue of repatriation of Syrian refugees abroad as his main goal. Al-Bashir has set a goal of repatriating millions of Syrian refugees abroad as part of efforts to restore stability to the country.
