Dec 15, Kathmandu- A two-day conference on organ transplantation, 'The Himalayan Transplant Conference', is underway in Kathmandu. The conference is being jointly organized by an organization of doctors active in organ transplantation and attended by doctors from different countries of the world.
The conference began on Saturday morning at The Everest Hotel in New Baneshwor. The formal inauguration was held at 6 pm.
The conference is attended by transplant experts and stakeholders from Nepal, India, the UK, the US, Japan, the Netherlands and other countries. 26 working papers are being presented at the conference and 19 foreign experts are participating in them.
The Scientific Committee Chairman of the program, Prof. Dr. Rishi Kumar Kafle, said that the transplant has started after a long time since the treatment of kidney disease and the start of hemodialysis service. He said that continuous achievements are being made in kidney transplantation in Nepal. Similarly, American doctor Dr. Dori Segev recalled that he came to Nepal to help run the laparoscopic surgery service after meeting Dr. Pukar 10 years ago. He mentioned that the beauty and friendliness of the place attracted him.
The newly elected president of the society, Dr. Dibya Singh Shah, treasurer Dr. Dipesh Shrestha, secretary of the conference organizing committee, Dr. Kalpana Kumari Shrestha, and others said that through such conferences, renowned personalities in the field of transplantation will be brought under one roof and they will help in making organ transplantation successful by exchanging skills and knowledge related to organ donation and transplantation.
