Dec 15, Kathmandu- A strange incident has come to light in India. A person living in the city of Surat in Gujarat cut off his fingers so that he could not work as a computer operator in a company.
32-year-old Mayur Tarapara, who works in a jewelry company, chopped off four fingers of his left hand with a sharp weapon. He had initially told the police that he fainted while urinating near Vedanta Circle and when he regained consciousness, he found himself with his finger cut off.
According to Mayur, he was going to his friend's house on a motorcycle on December 8. At that time, when he reached the Ring Road near Vedanta Circle, he started having a headache, he felt dizzy. Then he fell unconscious. After 10 minutes, he regained consciousness. And, when he regained consciousness, he realized that his finger had been cut. While giving a statement to the police, Mayur had said that someone might have cut his finger for black magic. However, the police found Mayur's statement fabricated.
The police became suspicious after no evidence was found at the scene. His mobile phone, motorcycle and cash were safe, but the severed fingers were nowhere to be found.
The crime branch was then given the task of investigating the incident. During the investigation, when the police presented evidence based on Mayur's activities, CCTV footage and phone call records, he admitted the truth. He said that he cut off his own finger because he could not leave his job due to excessive work pressure and family responsibilities.
The young man, who has graduated in civil engineering, also showed the police the place where he threw the finger and the knife. The materials were later found.
According to the police, Mayur used to work in a jewellery company owned by his relatives. He was working as a computer operator in the accounting department there. He did not want to work in that company. However, he could not tell that 'I will not work anymore'.
So he set out to make himself unfit for the company. And, he planned to cut off his fingers. “Mayur bought a sharp knife from a shop and four days later, on Sunday night at 10 pm, stopped his motorcycle on Amroli Ring Road and cut off his four fingers,” the police officer said. “He tied a rope near his elbow to stop the bleeding. Then, he put the knife and fingers in a bag and threw them away.”
His friends took Mayur to the hospital. Three fingers were recovered from the bag and a knife from another bag, officials said.
Amroli police said further investigation is underway into the incident.
