According to media reports, the singer has been identified as Parastoo Ahmadi. Parastoo was arrested on Saturday in the Iranian city of Sari. Women in Iran are required to wear the hijab, and Iran has a history of cracking down on women who do not comply with the rule. There were also widespread protests against the hijab in Iran in 2022.

The protests began after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was tortured by Iranian police for not wearing the hijab.

A few months ago, news came out of Iran that a student was beaten by Iran's morality police for not wearing a hijab. As a result of this beating, the student went into a coma and died a few days later.
