Dec 21, Kathmandu- ​​​​​​​Three people were killed and 20 others injured when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in Mallawa on the Hatton-Kandy main road in Sri Lanka's Central Province on Saturday, police said.

There were 25 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, and all the passengers were injured, local police said.

Police confirmed that three of the injured died in hospital, while the remaining passengers are being treated at regional hospitals.

Motor vehicle accidents are a frequent occurrence in Sri Lanka. According to official data, between January 1 and October 25 this year, around two thousand people died in road accidents.
