Dec 21, Kathmandu- Nepal has sold electricity worth Rs 13.4 billion to India in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2081/082.
The Nepal Electricity Authority has sold 1.76 billion units of electricity from the monsoon season, which was consumed within the country from Shrawan to Mangsir, to India. The average selling rate of electricity exported to India in the five months was Rs 7.39 per unit, according to the authority.
The NEA is selling the surplus electricity consumed within the country at competitive rates in the day-ahead and real-time markets of the Indian Power Exchange (IPE) and in the states of Haryana and Bihar as per the bilateral medium-term power sales agreements.
Electricity trade with India is done in Indian rupees. The NEA has earned an income of Rs 8.15 billion from the purchase of electricity from India.
The highest amount of electricity exported to India was Rs 4.15 billion in Shrawan, while the lowest amount of electricity worth Rs 281.4 million was sent to India in Mangsir. According to the NEA, electricity worth Rs 3.68 billion was exported to India in Bhadra, Rs 3.7 billion in Asoj, and Rs 1.87 billion in Kartik.
