Dec 23, Kathmandu- US President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that he will keep Tiktok operating in the US. At an event organized by the conservative organization Turning Point USA in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump indicated that he will not ban the popular video-sharing app Tiktok in the US.
Trump said Tiktok helped him reach some key voters in the presidential election. He also mentioned the possibility of keeping Tiktok in operation for some time, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Trump has said that his campaign on Tiktok during the election has received a good response and the video has been viewed billions of times. According to a graph he saw, Trump also said that his views were the most viewed on Tiktok.
In April, US President Joe Biden, citing the violation of user privacy and national security threats, made a law giving 270 days to ByteDance, the parent company of Tiktok, to sell Tiktok.
The law states that if Tiktok does not comply with the law, app store operators like Apple and Google will be directed to remove Tiktok from their platforms. However, Tiktok has filed a lawsuit against this law and directive from the US government. The final hearing of which will be held next month, i.e. in January.
