Egg Prices At All-time High

Dec 28, Kathmandu- Layer poultry farmers have received the highest ever price for eggs. The price of eggs, which is being sold at a constant loss, will be sold at the highest price since Saturday.

Effective from Saturday, the farm price of large eggs has been set at Rs 3,600 per crate (seven crates) and medium eggs at Rs 3,500.

The cost price of eggs in Nepal is 16.56 rupees per egg. With the increase in price, the consumer price has been fixed at Rs 22.50 per egg.

According to Binod Pokharel, President of Nepal Layers Poultry Association, farmers will get the cost price with the increase in price. Daunne Agro Farm, Himchuli Poultry, Khilungkali (Janakpur Agro), Subish Poultry, Bhijju Poultry, Shivam Layers Farm, among others, have fixed the new price in the Kathmandu wholesale market from Saturday.

He said that the price of eggs has increased due to the decrease in production due to winter, a decline in the number of egg-producing chickens, an increase in tourists, and the increase in demand for eggs with the opening of schools and colleges. He said that many farmers have been displaced due to the sale of old chickens on their farms, and they have not been able to lay new chicks.

As the losses continued to mount, many farmers were displaced, said Trilochan Kandel, a poultry farmer and the outgoing president of the Chitwan Industry Association. Last year also, the price of eggs was increased four times in the month of Paush.
