Calls For Continuation Of Israeli Cooperation In The Agricultural Sector

Jan 02, Kathmandu- Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has expressed hope that Israel's support for Nepal's agricultural sector will continue in the coming days.

In a courtesy call with Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Bass at the ministry today, Minister Adhikari mentioned that Nepal and Israel have had friendly relations for 65 years and urged the ambassador to take the initiative to renew the cooperation agreement in the agricultural sector between the two countries.

Stating that the ‘Earn and Learn’ program implemented after an agreement between Nepal and Israel has created opportunities for Nepali youth, he urged for its continuation. Stating that the scholarships provided by Israel to Nepali students have provided significant support to Nepal’s agricultural sector, Minister Adhikari urged the ambassador to take the initiative to establish the center as the areas have been selected for the establishment of the Center for Excellence as per the agreement signed with the Israeli government for the development of Nepal’s agriculture. Stating that around five thousand Nepalis are currently working in Israel and this has also improved their living standards, Minister Adhikari expressed the hope that multilateral cooperation will continue for the mutual benefit of the country and people in the coming days.

In that context, the embassy said that Israel wants to further cooperate in the agricultural sector of Nepal in the coming days through technology transfer. The embassy expressed its commitment to take the initiative to establish a Center for Excellence for Agriculture in the areas selected by Nepal this year.

The embassy has stated that there is a possibility of sending Nepali workers to the agricultural sector. The ambassador also committed to paying attention to the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries in the past for the development of the agricultural sector.
