MCC To Provide Additional Rs. 6.8 Billion Aid

Jan 03, Kathmandu- The American aid project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is going to provide an additional aid amount of Rs. 6.80 billion.

The MCC Board of Directors announced today that it has decided to provide the amount for projects under the MCC worth Rs 92 billion, which have been implemented since Bhadra 2080 BS with US grants and cost sharing from the Government of Nepal.

“The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Board of Directors has approved an additional US$50 million for the Nepal Compact. The Board’s decision underscores the shared commitment between MCC and the Government of Nepal to implement Nepal’s development priorities through transformative, high-quality infrastructure projects,” said a press release issued by MCC.

Cameron Alford, Vice President of MCC Compact Operations, expressed confidence that this additional assistance will contribute to strengthening Nepal's electricity transmission, long-term economic growth, and ensuring the success of the Compact, according to a statement.

Under the MCC project, a 400 kV double circuit 315 km electricity transmission line will be constructed. The transmission line will be constructed at Lapsiphedi in Kathmandu and Ratmatema in Nuwakot, passing through Makawanpur, Dhading, Tanahun, Palpa, Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Maheshpur in India. After the construction of the transmission line, it will be possible to exchange 3,000 MW of electricity between Nepal and India.
