Decision To Arrest Ousted South Korean President Yoon Postponed Due To Security Risks

Jan 03, Kathmandu- The Corruption Eradication Investigation Bureau, which entered the residence of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to arrest him, said it was unable to arrest him due to obstruction by the president's security team.

The Joint Investigation Headquarters, which was tasked with arresting and investigating him, issued a public notice saying, "Due to obstruction, President Yoon could not be arrested."

The headquarters has expressed serious objections to the ousted president of South Korea for not following legal procedures.

The investigation team from the Public Prosecution Office departed from Gwacheon at 6:15 a.m. local time on Friday morning and arrived near the presidential residence at 7:15 a.m. and 20 p.m.

After an attempt was made to block them by placing equipment at the main entrance, 80 officers and police entered the presidential residence on foot.

Upon reaching the main gate, the investigation team attempted to arrest Yoon. However, after a tense five-hour standoff, the presidential security team did not allow the investigation team to enter the building.

The security team had set up a wall of 200 security officers and soldiers around the presidential residence. Although security officers discussed allowing entry through the gate, the investigation team said it had to postpone the arrest attempt due to security concerns due to the large crowd and tense situation.

President Yoon's legal representative, Yun Gap-geu, said during a press conference that it was not legal to arrest the president based on an illegal warrant. "The process has been taken forward in the Constitutional Court in this regard, and it should be done accordingly," he said.

The investigation team has stated that it will take another decision and take action. Yun's arrest warrant expires on January 6.

The investigation office plans to arrest President Yoon and take him to the investigation office in Gwacheon, a government compound. A detailed investigation will be conducted into the incident.
