Jan 04, Kathmandu- As a part of the national vaccination program, approximately 16,000 girl students studying in grades 6 to 10 in Kavrepalanchowk will be vaccinated against HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), which causes cervical cancer.
The District Health Office has stated that the data collection process for the vaccination program against the virus has been completed from all the local levels of the district.
The nationwide vaccination program will be conducted simultaneously from Magh 22 to Falgun 6. The office has also stated that preparations for the vaccination program have reached the final stage.
According to Office Chief Ragishree Kakshapati Shrestha, preparations are underway to vaccinate a total of 15,935 girl students, including 15,686 students from 252 community schools and 84 private schools in Kavrepalanchowk, and 249 students from out-of-school areas.
According to the statistics of the office, there are 3,866 students in class 6, 3,033 in class 7, 3,01 in class 8, 2,987 in class 9 and 2,799 in class 10. 15 thousand six hundred and eighty six people will be vaccinated at the level.
Shrestha said that discussions are underway to vaccinate 249 out-of-school girls aged 10 to 14. In the case of out-of-school girls, the vaccination will be done based on their age and birth certificate.
The Government of Nepal is planning to launch a campaign to protect girls aged 10 to 14 from HPV infection with the vaccine, which has been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Vaccination centers will be operated in local schools, and on the last day of the campaign, vaccines will be provided by health institutions. According to statistics, 2,200 women in Nepal are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year. It is reported that 1,300 women died out of this.
