Jan 05, Kathmandu- A team of the Nepal Army has embarked on a Gorkha-Kathmandu trek today to promote the trekking route used during the unification of Nepal.
The unification trek, which started from Gorkha, will pass through Dhading and Nuwakot and conclude with a special ceremony to be organized at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar in Kathmandu on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day on this Paush 27, informed the Commander-in-Chief of Nepal Army's Repurmadan Battalion Gorkha, Lieutenant General Ashok Kumar Chhetri.
The Nepal Army has started a trek on the footpath used by the then King Prithvi Narayan Shah during the expansion of the Gorkha kingdom at the Gorkha Durbar. “The unification trek will widely publicize the historical trek,” said Chief Chhetri, adding, “The trek program has been organized for the preservation, promotion and promotion of history.”
Major General Chhetri said that the army team set out on a trek from the Hanuman Bhanjyang Chautara in the palace carrying the national flag of Nepal and lights. The army also carries the flags of the first five companies of the then Nepali Army raised by Prithvi Narayan Shah: Srinath Gana, Kalibaks Gana, Purano Gorakh, Barda Bahadur Gana and Subaj Gana.
The Army has started the unification march in collaboration with Gorkha Municipality and Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality. The team from Gorkha will hand over the national flag and lights they brought from Gorkha to the Dhading-based Army team today, while the Dhading team will hand over the national flag and lights they brought from Gorkha to the Nuwakot-based Army team.
Similarly, the army team of Nuwakot will hand over the flag and light taken from Gorkha to the army team of Kathmandu, he said. The Nepali Army has been developing the route used by Prithvi Narayan Shah as a unification trail for the past six years and has been conducting trekking for publicity during the current campaign for Nepal unification.
The team that set out on the trek was bid farewell by Nepal Army West Commandant and Lieutenant General Madhukar Singh Karki, District Coordination Committee Gorkha Chief Mohan Thapa Magar, Gorkha Municipality Mayor Krishna Bahadur Rana Magar, Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Poudel, Gorkha Municipality Deputy Mayor Masalimaya Thokar, Gorkha Durbar Caretaker Office Chief Bishnu Pathak and others during a program.
