7 Magnitude Earthquake: Epicenter near Nepal-China border

Jan 07, Kathmandu- The epicenter of the earthquake that struck at 6:50 am on Tuesday morning has been revealed to be in the Nepal-China border area.

According to Dr. Lok Bijay Adhikari, senior seismologist at the National Seismology and Research Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 7. According to the seismologist, the epicenter of the earthquake is Dinggye County near the Nepal-China border. Although the shock of the earthquake has been felt for a long time, no damage has been reported yet.

The jolts of the earthquake was felt all over Nepal. The shock of the earthquake was felt in China, Nepal along with Bangladesh, India and Bhutan.

Dinggye County borders Sankhuwasabha and Taplejung in southern Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim to the southeast.

The earthquake was felt in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas, as well as in the Terai and eastern Nepal districts of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Ilam, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, and Taplejung.

People rushed out of their homes to open areas after feeling the tremors. According to senior seismologist Adhikari, the powerful earthquake struck Dinggye, about 100 kilometers north of Nepal's eastern border.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Baisakh 12, 2015. The earthquake, which had its epicenter in Gorkha, was followed by a series of smaller earthquakes in Nepal. In the last two months alone, earthquakes above magnitude 4 have repeatedly occurred in western Nepal.

6.8 magnitude measured in China
The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, citing the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), that the earthquake of 6.8 magnitude was measured in China.

The epicenter of the earthquake was Tingri County, Shigatse, Xinjiang Autonomous Region at 9:05 am on Tuesday according to Chinese time. The time difference between China and Nepal is about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 28.5 degrees north latitude and 87.45 degrees east longitude and the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Xinhua news agency (CENC), published in the China Daily.
