Jan 07, Kathmandu- An earthquake that struck the Shigatse region of Tibet in China on Tuesday morning has killed 53 people.
According to China's state-run online news agency CGTN, 53 people have died so far in the earthquake. 38 people have been injured in Tibet so far.
The China Earthquake Networks Center measured the quake at 6.8 on the Richter scale. Chinese media reported that details about the physical damage caused by the quake have not yet been released.
China's State Council Earthquake Relief and Emergency Management Department said that a three-tier emergency rescue process has been activated after the earthquake struck the city of Shigatse in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region on Tuesday.
CGTN reported that a task force has been sent from Beijing to guide rescue and relief efforts.
