Jan 07, Kathmandu- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning.
As of 3 p.m., a total of 95 people had been confirmed dead and 130 others injured.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Tsogo Township, Dingri County, Shigao City at 9:05 a.m. Beijing time. There are 27 villages and about 6,900 people within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter. Dingri County has a population of more than 61,000, according to official statistics.
More than 3,400 rescuers and more than 340 health workers have been sent to the earthquake-affected area.
According to the weather forecast, the minimum temperature in Dingri will range from minus 18 to minus 14 degrees Celsius for the next three days.
