Prithvi Day Being Celebrated Across The Country Today

Jan 11, Kathmandu- The birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the creator of modern Nepal, is being celebrated across the country today with various programs being organized. This year, the 303rd birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan is being celebrated. Prithvi Narayan Shah was born to King Narbhupal Shah and Queen Kaushalawati in Gorkha on Paush 27, 1779 BS.

Prithvi Narayan Shah became king on Chaitra 25, 1799 BS. Before that, Nepal was divided into 52 kingdoms. After becoming king, Prithvi Narayan was successful in expanding the borders of Nepal from Teesta in the east to Chepe River in the west. After Prithvi Narayan's death, his successors have a history of expanding the Nepal kingdom to Fort Kangra in the west. Prithvi Narayan Shah conquered Nuwakot in 1801 BS. 25 years later, in 1826 BS, he conquered the Kathmandu Valley.

After conquering the Nepal Valley, Prithvi Narayan Shah expanded the country's borders by conquering Chaudandi, Bijayapur, etc. in the east. In memory of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who initiated the unification of Nepal with the help of all castes and languages, his 303rd birth anniversary is being celebrated nationwide today with various programs. On this occasion, it is said that a special program will be held in the Shah's statue complex located in front of the west main gate of Singha Durbar. A special program is organized here every year on Paush 27.
